Next target in drug war: upscale bars in Makati, Taguig

Philippine National Police chief Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa on Thursday said high-end bars would not be spared in the government’s antidrug campaign.

Speaking to reporters in General Santos City, De la Rosa said he would initiate talks with owners of upscale clubs in Makati City and Bonifacio Global City in Taguig where many party drug users and pushers were said to going.

“Mag-initiate muna ako para peaceful tayo. Mag-initiate muna ako ng talks sa mga club owners sa Makati, sa BGC sa Taguig, ‘yung mga high-end bars diyan na alam natin maraming nagte-take dyan ng mga party drugs,” De la Rosa said in ambush interview.

The police chief said he would first ask the cooperation of the owners on the administration’s ongoing war against illegal drugs.

“If I’ll be able to get their support and cooperation then mas maganda para hindi na hahantong sa kahiyaan, magkakasuhan, magkaparoblema. Kung magcooperate sila then, why not?” said De la Rosa.

But if they would refuse to work with the police, De la Rosa warned them that he would be “forced to do our job our own way.”

“Pero kundi sila magcooperate, then we will be forced to do our job our own way. Our own way. Not their way. Pero kung magkaroon ng compromise na mag-cooperate sila, then maganda ’yon,” he said./rga
