CEBU CITY, Philippines — A village councilor was killed while his wife and son were wounded on Wednesday night when armed men shot them inside their house in Barangay Napo, Carcar City, southern Cebu.

Mario Labra, 58, of Napo, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was dead on arrival at the district hospital in Carcar, 42 km south of here. Police said he used to be the village chair.

His wife, Geronima, 55, suffered a gunshot wound in the left arm, while their son, Clayborn, 24, was hit in the left leg.

PO1 Francisco Saberon of Carcar police station said the family was watching television on Wednesday night when armed men kicked the door open and repeatedly shot Mario before shooting Geronima and Clayborn.

Their neighbors who heard gunfire and screams for help rushed the victims to the hospital.

Police recovered six caliber-45 bullet shells from the crime scene.

The motive and the identity of the assailants remain unknown./rga
