Quirino soil collapse kills construction worker, injures four

CABARROGUIS, Quirino — A 42-year-old construction worker died and four other workers were hurt when loose soil fell on them at a flood control project along the Nagtipunan-Dinadiawan road in Quirino Province on Saturday (Aug. 6).

Vicmar Watan, 42, a mason, died on the way to the Maddela District Hospital, said Chief Insp. Avelino Cuntapay, Quirino police spokesperson.

Watan was part of a crew building a wall in a project area in Barangay Pulang Lupa, in Nagtipunan, when soil around it collapsed.

Hurt were Francisco Blanza, 42; Jhon Guitling, 42; Gary Sagubo, 43, and Jimmy Pumig-as, 40.

They were employees of the Diamond J Construction.

Their employer Jaime Nipahoy will reportedly shoulder the medical expenses of the injured workers, and the funeral and burial expenses for Watan./rga
