DSWD warns folk near 2 volcanoes

/ 06:27 AM July 31, 2016

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Saturday warned the people living around Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon and Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental to be on alert after both volcanoes showed recent signs of activity.

Three volcanic earthquakes were recorded the last 24 hours on Bulusan, while wispy emissions of white steam were observed on Kanlaon, the DSWD said.

Both volcanoes have been placed on alert status level 1.

DSWD field offices in the affected regions are closely monitoring the volcanoes and coordinating with the local government units on preparations. DJ Yap
