ZAMBOANGA CITY—Another suspected drug pusher was killed in Western Mindanao for reportedly engaging authorities in a shootout on Saturday.
Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, the Western Mindanao police chief, said Gonggong Buendia was being subjected to a buy-bust operation in Barangay Cocob in Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, when he sensed the police’s presence.
“The buy-bust team was fired upon by Buendia, prompting our personnel to fire back,” Beltran said.
Buendia was killed during the shootout, he said.
Beltran said the team recovered a total of 21 sachets of suspected “shabu” and a revolver with live ammunition during the operation.
