Dureza: Lifting of truce does not affect peace talks with NDF
DAVAO CITY—Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza on Saturday said that despite the lifting of the unilateral truce by President Rodrigo Duterte, there was no indication that the upcoming peace negotiations with the National Democratic Front (NDF) would not push through.
Duterte lifted his declared truce on Saturday evening over the communist movement’s failure to reciprocate it and in the wake of Wednesday’s ambush in Kapalong, Davao del Norte, in which a militiaman was killed and four others wounded.
“But so far, as of the moment, there is no supervening factor that will affect the upcoming talks in Oslo on Aug. 20,” Dureza said in a text message to the Inquirer.
He also said that they were awaiting further developments on the issue of the talks.
“Let’s wait and see,” Dureza added.
