A man who earlier held a call center agent up at gunpoint along Quezon avenue was shot dead by responding policemen in Quezon City on Saturday morning.
According to Senior Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, acting chief of the Quezon City Police District, the still unidentified suspect was shot by policemen from QCPD station 10 around 3:20 am after he held up Annabelle Arieta, 28, along Quezon Avenue near Bantayog Centris almost an hour earlier, Eleazar said.
The suspect — who took the victim’s bag with P2000 cash, a T8 cellphone and personal items — was around 30-35 years old, wore a green t-shirt, maong pants and a violet bull cap, police said.
After the heist, Eleazar said the suspect casually walked towards BIR road while Arieta went towards Edsa and sought assistance from a mobile car crew who immediately responded to the incident.
The policemen of QCPD Kamuning station met the suspect along NIA Road with the former firing the first shot against the police. The shot missed.
The policemen then retaliated, resulting in the suspect’s instantaneous death.
Recovered from the suspect were the stolen items of Arieta who later identified the slain suspect as the one who declared the heist.
The police recovered from the crime scene the 9mm caliber firearm loaded with five ammunitions used by the suspect and four (4) empty shells.
Baltazar said they have yet to identify the suspect whose body still lies in a funeral parlor in Quezon City as of press time.
“While we are intensifying the anti-illegal drugs campaign here in Quezon City, we also make sure that the relentless efforts of our policemen on anti-criminality operations and deployments are sustained,” Eleazar said. JE
