Minority group hopes to chair at least 4 Senate committees

The new minority group in the Senate is hoping to get the chairmanship of at least four of the 39 committees.

“There are 39 committees, siguro naman hindi na masama kung apat sa amin di ba? Ano ba naman yun (so, perhaps it would be reasonable enough for four of those committees go to us),” Senate Minority Leader Ralph Recto told reporters on Wednesday.

Recto has only two members in the minority and they are Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Antonio Trillanes IV.

Trillanes was already elected on the floor Tuesday as chairman of the Senate committee on civil service.

Escudero, on the other hand, would get the chairmanship of the committee on the banks, Recto said.

“Tatlo lang naman kami e, maawa naman sila (There’s only three of us, so they should take pity on us),” Recto said in jest.

The Senate has so far elected the chairpersons and members of 20 of the 39 committees. CDG
