Arroyo to return to Malacañang for national security meeting

Former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday afternoon will be back in Malacañang after six years.

Arroyo will attend the National Security Council (NSC) meeting together with past presidents of the country, which include Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada.

Arroyo’s attendance was confirmed by her spokesperson Agnes Devanadera in a text message to reporters.

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to convene the NSC at Malacañang at 3 p.m.

Duterte, together with 35 members of the NSC from the executive and legislative branch, would discuss the recent ruling of the United Nation’s tribunal on our sea dispute with China.

“The President will lead the NSC in a multipartisan dialogue in order to agree on vital policies and strategies on important matters, including the recent ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration on the West Philippine Sea,” a Palace release said.

In the first NSC meeting under the Duterte administration, the Council would be presented with an overview of the Road Map for Peace and Development by the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, as well as with an update on the campaign against illegal drugs.

Former president Benigno Aquino III has reportedly expressed his intention to attend the NSC. CDG
