BATANGAS CITY — A barangay (village) chairman was shot and killed by two men in Lipa City in Batangas province on Monday afternoon, police said.

Supt. Carlos Barde, Lipa police chief, said Leonardo Pureza, village chief of Pag-Olingin West, was inside a parked jeepney along the national highway in Barangay (village) Antipolo del Norte and was waiting for his wife when gunmen attacked him at2:30 p.m.

Barde said the hitmen, who were on board a motorcycle, fled toward Padre Garcia town.

Pureza died while undergoing treatment at the NL Villa Medical Center in Lipa.  SFM
