Erap ‘very hopeful’ Jinggoy will be freed under Duterte admin

Former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada said he is “very hopeful” that his son, former Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, would be released under the Duterte administration.

“I believe that he’s innocent,” the mayor said when asked if was he was hopeful that his son would also be freed, following the release of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

“The past administration is selective justice,” he added in an interview with reporters ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address at the House of Representatives this Monday afternoon.

Pressed if he was hopeful under the new administration, Mayor Estrada said: “Very hopeful because the past administration is selective justice.”

His son has been charged and detained during the time of former President Benigno Aquino III in connection with the alleged “pork barrel” scam.

Unlike Estrada, Aquino was a no-show at Duterte’s Sona.

Being the past President, Estrada said Aquino should also attend the Sona.

“Of course (Aquino should attend), being a past President. I don’t know the reasons why he’s not attending,” the mayor said of Aquino. JE
