Grandma charged for assaulting Olongapo court sheriff
OLONGAPO CITY–A grandmother is facing direct assault charges for throwing hot water at a court sheriff serving a demolition order in Subic, Zambales on Wednesday (July 20).
Teresita Ofrasio, 65, a resident of Barangay Asinan Proper in Subic town, said high emotions led her to confront Sheriff Leandro Madarang of the Olongapo City Regional Trial Court (RTC) at about 9 a.m. The sheriff was serving a demolition order issued by Judge Richard Paradeza of RTC Branch 72 against Ofrasio and three other house owners.
Madarang, who suffered burns on his back, said he was just doing his job.
Madarang said he charged Ofrasio for direct assault at the city prosecutor’s office on Wednesday. Ofrasio said she got flustered when Madarang said the house where she was staying needed to be demolished.
“I was surprised when [Madarang] told me that the house is also covered by the demolition order,” Ofrasio said.
Ofrasio said she wanted to apologize to Madarang so he would drop the complaint because she had to take care of her grandchildren. Ofrasio and three other house owners have occupied land claimed by Ramon Carredo.
