Drug suspect shot dead in Bohol

VALENCIA, Bohol–A suspected drug pusher, who was out on bail, was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman in Valencia town, Bohol, on Tuesday night.

SPO1 Gregorio Tubio, Valencia police investigator, identified the victim as Jonaler Lagrada Palaca, 28, a resident of Barangay (village) Loctob, in this town.

Josevyn Palaca, 25, went to the police station about 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday to report a shooting incident along the highway of Barangay Canduao Oriental, said Tubio.

He said policemen were sent to the area and found Jonaler sprawled out on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Jonaler and Josevyn were not related.

Tubio said the victim was among the drug personalities who surrendered to the police during the Oplan Tokhang, a police campaign to persuade drug suspects to give up and change their ways.

But Tubio said Palaca did not stop peddling illegal drugs even if he had surrendered to the police.

He said they were looking into the angle that the killing was due to the failure of the victim to remit the drug sales.
