CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo could now seek a cure for her ailments abroad, following her acquittal from plunder charges in a Supreme Court ruling, Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda said on Tuesday.
“[The medical care] is important because she has been losing weight progressively [due to a neck and spine ailment],” said the governor, Arroyo’s political ally.
“Many Kapampangan are happy … She can now help in the further development of Pampanga,” Pineda added.
The provincial government is also preparing a thanksgiving mass for Arroyo’s return.
She last visited the province in July 2012 when a judge in her trial for electoral sabotage granted her bail for lack of evidence. She then went to Porac town and hinted she would seek another term in Congress.
By October that year, she was back in jail to await trial for the alleged misuse of the intelligence funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. SFM
