Motorcycle-riding gunman kills Batangas cop; drug angle eyed

BATANGAS CITY – A policeman, who had undergone a recovery program for drug users, was shot and killed by a lone gunman in Batangas City on Sunday, police said.

Chief Insp. Jose Naparato, Batangas City deputy police chief, said Senior Police Officer 3 Limuel Panaligan, a resident of Barangay (village) Dumantay, was driving his car when a man on a motorcycle shot him in Barangay Kumintang Ibaba at 11:40 a.m.

Panaligan died while being rushed to the Batangas Medical Center here.

Naparato said Panaligan, who was assigned to the city police station, underwent a recovery program intended for policemen who were involved in drug use and trade.

“He did not mend his ways,” said Naparato, adding that Panaligan continued to use drugs even after he completed the program.
