NAGUILIAN, Isabela—Two children died when the banks of the Cagayan River in Palattao village here eroded on Saturday.

The remains of 6-year-old Mark Justine Aguinaldo and 5-year-old Rose Ann Aguinaldo were dug out by residents after an hour of digging through loose soil. But they managed to extract their brother, Jay-ar, alive. The three children were playing near the area that collapsed.

“I did not know the children followed me when I went to the river to wash clothes,” their mother, Margie, said.
