Village head, daughter, young kin killed in ambush

SANTO TOMAS, Isabela—A village chief, his daughter and two other children were killed by armed men who opened fire on their vehicle in Caniogan Abajo Sur village on Friday afternoon (July 15).

Caniogan Abajo Sur village captain Montano Zipagan, his daughter Joylyn Mabbayad-Zipagan, his eight-year-old niece Jelaine Zipagan and 12-year-old granddaughter Ira Shane Zipagan died in the 5:15 p.m. ambush, according to Supt. Narciso Paragas, Isabela police spokesperson.

Ira Shane and Joylyn died in the vehicle, while Zipagan and Jelaine were declared dead on arrival at the Milagros District Hospital in Cabagan town.

The attackers wounded Zipagan’s wife, Benita, and their one-year-old granddaughter Terris Joy Mabbayad.

After the attack, the gunmen set the car on fire.
