A couple from San Antonio, Texas, epitomized the phrase “Till death do us part,” as they both passed away side by side in their hospital beds holding hands.
After 58 years of marriage, high-school sweethearts George and Ora Lee Rodriguez departed from earth the only way they knew how to—being together.
“I just can’t believe something like this would ever happen, you hear this on the movies … like The Notebook,” the couple’s daughter, Corina Martinez, told local San Antonio television station, KABB.
According to the report, the couple were both diagnosed with dementia, which continued to progress over time. George had also suffered a stroke and died in his sleep.
“We had them here at the house, in their hospital beds, right beside each other,” Martinez said in the report. “They were holding hands.”
Just three hours later, Ora Lee also passed away while surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Corina’s sister Georgia Perez chimed in, “My mother would always say that she was going to take my father or vice versa, and it did happen, we didn’t think it would, but it did.”
The pair’s inspiring love story came to a beautiful halt less than a week after their 58th wedding anniversary.
They reportedly met in San Antonio where George was working as a butcher at a local meat market. After serving his time as a US Marine, George fulfilled his promise and married Ora Lee in 1958. Khristian Ibarrola
