SANTIAGO CITY, Philippines—Five passengers of an air-conditioned bus died when the vehicle crashed on Tuesday dawn near a sharp curve in Nueva Ecija’s Carranglan town near the Nueva Vizcaya boundary.
The Victory Liner bus (with plate no. AYK-552) toppled and struck the road’s concrete railings. It was ferrying 25 people, including a pregnant woman.
Four of the passengers of the bus died on the spot, while a fifth passenger died on the way to the hospital. Their identities have not been released at press time.
Twenty other passengers were injured and were treated at different hospitals in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija.
The bus came from Tuguegarao City and was bound for Metro Manila when it crashed at 1:30 a.m. near Putlan village, said Senior Insp. Adriano Gabriel Jr., Carranglan police chief.
Bus driver Ryan Manuel, 28, told police investigators he failed to adjust to the sharp curve.
