CEBU CITY — A drunk man stabbed a couple and another neighbor who told him to surrender to the police and undergo rehabilitation from illegal drug use.
Ricardo Cupta and wife Francesca died of multiple stab wounds while Leclec Balolot was wounded.
The suspect, Eddie Ardiente, 26, was at large, as of Tuesday morning, after he attacked his neighbors past 8 p.m. on Monday in Sitio Maaslom, Barangay Busay this city.
The suspect was seen jumping into the river after committing the crime.
Barangay Busay chairman Yody Sanchez said Ardiente was drunk when he went to the house of Balolot where he stabbed him after the victim accused him of being a drug addict.
Sanchez said Ardiente was actually after Balolot’s father who wrote his name on the list of drug users in Busay.
From Balolot’s house, Ardiente proceeded to the house of the Cupta couple where he first stabbed Francesca who was in the kitchen and was able to shout for help.
When her screams were heard by her husband, Ricardo immediately went to her rescue but was also stabbed by Ardiente.
Sanchez said Ardiente was also mad at Francesca who told him to surrender to the police in the wake of the anti-illegal drugs campaign, Oplan Tokhang. Under the campaign, cops and community leaders go from door to door persuading known drug users and pushers to surrender and undergo rehabilitation.
Ardiente’s brother, Erwin, said that before committing the crime, the suspect had threatened he would make those who called him a drug addict pay.
Erwin admitted that his brother used to take drugs. SFM
