Wanted: Justices for CA, Sandigan

The Supreme Court through the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) announced on Saturday openings for justices in the Court of Appeals and Sandiganbayan and for judges in the Family Courts.

In a statement, the JBC said applications and recommendations were open for one Court of Appeals (CA) associate justice, two Sandiganbayan associate justices, 48 Family Court judges and one JBC Legal Education Board regular member.

“There will be a vacancy in the appellate court following the compulsory retirement of Justice Agnes R. Carpio on Dec. 1,” the JBC said on Saturday.

The Sandiganbayan meanwhile needs two justices to replace Napoleon Inoturan, who is retiring on Aug. 1, and Jose R. Hernandez. who will retire on Nov. 22.

“A former solicitor in the Office of the Solicitor General and a trial court judge prior to his Sandiganbayan post, Justice Inoturan is retiring two years ahead of his mandatory retirement in July 2018,” the JBC statement said.

The JBC is also looking for a regular member of the Legal Education Board to represent its law students sector that was vacated in January.

At least 48 judges for Family Courts in the National Capital Region and Regions III and IV are needed, the JBC said.

The new judges will be assigned to Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig and Valenzuela in the NCR.
