DAVAO CITY—President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday faulted foreign intervention in the Middle East for the worsening situation there.
Speaking at the Mindanao Hariraya Eid al-Fitr celebration at SMX Convention Center here, Duterte cited the situation in Iraq and Libya.
The celebration was attended by prominent Moro leaders such as Ghadzali Jaafar of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
He said before the US-led coalition invaded Iraq, Saddam Hussein was in control and the situation there was much better than today.
“Look at Iraq now,” he said.
He also said violence worsened in Libya when Muammar Khadaffy was ousted as president.
Mr. Duterte said foreign intervention continued to worsen the Middle East situation, citing Syria’s case as another example.
He also said it was not correct to say that the Middle East is now exporting terror.
On the contrary, America is importing it, he said.
