Duterte appoints Robredo as HUDCC chief

Finally, a Cabinet post for Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo.

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Robredo as head of the government’s Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed Thursday.

In a press briefing, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II also confirmed that Robredo has accepted the said the post.

“The Vice President has accepted the offer and she was asked to report for the first Cabinet meeting on Monday,” Aguirre said.

In a statement, Robredo confirmed that she accepted her appointment to the Cabinet.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo kay Presidente Rodrigo Duterte na itinalaga tayo bilang tagapangulo ng Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (I thank President Rodrigo Duterte for appointing me to head Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council),” she said.

“Mas paglilingkuran natin ang ating mga kababayang walang tahanan at maipagpatuloy natin ang ating pangakong itulak ang kaunlaran at kaginhawaan para sa ating mga kapus palad na kababayan (I can serve our countrymen who are homeless and I can continue my promise to push for progress and improvement of the lives of our underprivileged countrymen),” she added.

The vice president said helping the marginalized Filipinos through housing was also a dream of her late husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

“Ang pagtugon sa mga pangangailangan sa pabahay ay matagal nang adhikain ni Jesse. Maisasakatuparan ito at mabibiyayaan ang mga nasa laylayan sa pakikipagtulungan ng lahat (Addressing the housing needs of those who are in need has been a longtime advocacy of Jesse. [With the postition], this could be fulfilled and the marginalized will benefit with everyone’s cooperation),” she said. RAM
