ZAMBOANGA CITY—A soldier was killed while three others were wounded in an ambush in Marawi City on Saturday.
Major Filemon Tan Jr., the spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command, said Army troopers from the 65th Infantry Battalion were on their way to the headquarters of the 103rd Infantry Brigade aboard a military truck and an armored vehicle when they were ambushed in the vicinity of Barangay Buadi Sacayo in Marawi City at 3:30 p.m.
Tan said the suspects also set off an improvised explosive device.
“Our troops were able to fire back and the firefight lasted for about 20 minutes. Unfortunately the incident resulted in the death of one soldier and the wounding of three others. A pursuit operation is ongoing,” Tan said.
