Driver shot by parking area guard in Mandaluyong
A DRIVER working for a state-run corporation was shot and wounded by a security guard after an altercation over parking space in a Mandaluyong City building Wednesday night.
The police said Miguel Villamor, 46, a driver working for Pag-Ibig Fund, was shot by Jimmy Opong, 43, a security guard assigned to the building by Achievers Security Agency Philippines.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. on the fourth floor parking area of Jelp Building, where Pag-Ibig Fund has an office, on Shaw Boulevard, Barangay Addition Hills. SPO2 Emmanuel Ermino, the case investigator from the Mandaluyong police, said the two men had an argument when Opong asked Villamor to park his vehicle somewhere else.
Villamor did leave to look for another slot but Opong, who was armed with a 9-mm pistol, followed and shot him several times, hitting the victim in the body and the right leg. Opong, a resident of Culiat, Quezon City, was arrested by two fellow security guards and remained in detention at the Mandaluyong police station as of Thursday.

Fake GCs land 74-year-old Marikina woman in jail
A 74-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested in Marikina City on Wednesday after she tried to sell P62,000 worth of gift checks which turned out to be fake, the police said.
Olivia Quilapio came with 124 pieces of Sodexo gift checks (GCs) which, when examined at Check Masters Pawnshop on Shoe Avenue, Barangay Santa Elena, did not contain security features detectable using a UV light machine.
PO2 Norberto Soberiendo, the case investigator, said Quilapio was able sell fake gift checks worth P22,000 to the same pawnshop in February but the fraud was discovered much later.
When she returned Wednesday morning, not only were her GCs found to be bogus but she was also recognized by Marvin Bino, the staff member who handled her February transaction. Bino said he was still paying, through salary deduction, for the losses incurred by the pawnshop.
When questioned, Quilapio, a resident of Bugallon Street, Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina, claimed that she got the GCs from an 85-year-old man. She remained in detention at the Marikina Police Community Precinct 3 to face charges for swindling. Ritzchelle Belenzo
