AFP to fete new President

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will welcome newly sworn in President and commander in chief Rodrigo Duterte on Friday.

In a media advisory, the AFP said that a parade and review in honor of Duterte is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m., a day after he took his oath as President.

At the same time, Southern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya will assume his post as the new chief of staff of the AFP in a change of command ceremony.

Visaya is a member of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983. Some of the courses he finished were the Scout Ranger Course, Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Executive Course on Security Studies in Hawaii and Masters in Project Management at the Australian Defense Force.

Some of the positions he held include: Commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro, Assistant Division Commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division based in Cotabato, Brigade Commander of the 104th Brigade based in Sultan Kudarat and the 901st Brigade based in Bicol.

Visaya will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on December 8 this year. IDL/rga
