Today, June 29, is the 87th birth anniversary of National Artist for Dance Lucrecia Reyes-Urtula. A choreographer, dance educator and researcher, Urtula spent almost four decades in the discovery and study of Philippine folk and ethnic dances.
A dance director for the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company, she was named National Artist in 1988. Urtula died on Aug. 24, 1999.
