Outgoing Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. on Tuesday donated a 1955 bronze cast of national hero Jose Rizal and the Speaker’s original copy of the 1935 Constitution to the House of Representatives.

Belmonte led the ceremonial signing and turnover of the deed of donation and acceptance of the Rizal bust Belmonte bought from the family of national artist Napoleon Abueva.

The bust, a bronze cast done by Abueva from the original bronze bust sculpted by national artist Guillermo Tolentino, was displayed at the lobby of the plenary hall.

According to the deed of donation and acceptance, the Rizal bronze cast was done by Abueva in 1955 from the original bronze bust of Tolentino.

Belmonte also donated his original copy of the 1935 Constitution, a leather-hard bound copy of the 1935 Constitution of the Philippines consisting of 42 pages, which would form part of the House of Representatives archives.

Belmonte donated the artifacts to the House of Representatives as he nears the end of his term as Speaker. CDG/rga
