Man shoots father, 7-year-old son in Abra town

BAGUIO CITY — A father and his 7-year-old son were shot in Abra’s Dolores town on Saturday night by a man who chased them off a swimming area, the Cordillera police said on Sunday.

Merlito Baldemor Buentipo, 31, died on the spot when he was  gunned down allegedly by Rodel Talledo Pilor in Sitio Bayyong, Kimmalaba village at 7:50 p.m.

Grade 2 pupil Leo Mark Ventura Buentipo was struck in the arm by a bullet and was being treated at a hospital there.

Pilor met Buentipo by chance earlier, according to an initial police report. Buentipo was wielding a bolo and Pilor said, “Apay tumagbat kan samet, insan (Are you about to attack me with that bolo, cousin)?”

Buentipo replied, “Hindi naman, insan (No, cousin).”

A few minutes later, Pilor turned up with a gun at a water reservoir area where Buentipo, his common-law wife, Mae Ann Baroga Ventura, and their two children were bathing.

Surprised, the family scampered for safety but Pilor chased them and fired at Buentipo and Leo Mark, police said. JE/rga
