URDANETA CITY – A policeman here was killed and his companion was wounded when  they were ambushed Thursday night (June 23) along the Manila North Road,  Supt. Jeff Fanged, the city police chief, said on Friday (June 24).

PO3 Marman dela Cruz, who was assigned at the police community precinct (PCP) at Barangay Nancayasan here, was driving back to the precinct with 19-year-old Enro Ruiz, when they were attacked at  11:10 p.m.

“They were aboard our police car. Then a red Toyota Corolla [sedan] took the left lane and its occupants fired at them,” said Fanged.

He said Dela Cruz was shot six times, and died at about 1:20 a.m. Friday while being treated at a hospital. Ruiz, who was struck on the thigh and wrist, is now in stable condition.

Fanged said investigators recovered 13 empty shells fired from a .40-caliber pistol.

He said that the gunmen’s car sped off towards Villasis town.  SFM
