A NO-PARKING policy and a new traffic scheme expected to benefit students of Saint Pedro Poveda College on Edsa, Quezon City, will be implemented starting July 4 to ease traffic in the area during the morning rush hour.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority-Traffic Discipline Office head Cris Saruca said the MMDA, school officials, Ortigas Center security and the Highway Patrol Group discussed the changes in the current traffic scheme in a meeting on Monday.
“We agreed to put a loop on Poveda Street so that vehicles coming from ADB Avenue could turn right on Poveda Street then make a U-turn to drop off students on the right side of the school,” Saruca explained.
Under the current setup, vehicles are allowed on ADB Avenue and Poveda Street where some even park after dropping off students. Saruca said they would ban parking on Poveda Street.
The MMDA said the new scheme would bring order to the area as over 1,100 vehicles enter Poveda Street during the morning rush hour, causing heavy traffic on the northbound lane of Edsa, particularly near Ortigas flyover and ADB Avenue.
The MMDA also earlier met with Mandaluyong traffic officials about a no-parking policy on Ortigas near La Salle Green Hills. Maricar B. Brizuela
