Military: 16 soldiers wounded, 3 Abus killed in Sulu encounter

Sixteen Army soldiers were wounded in a firefight with the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu on Tuesday afternoon, the military said.

Soldiers from the 32nd Infantry Battalion encountered about 200 members of the Abu Sayyaf in Sitio Bud Duwa Bayho, Brgy. Pansul in Patikul town past 2 p.m., Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said.

The encounter lasted about an hour, with the rebels running at different directions.

Tan said three members of the Abu Sayyaf were killed and at least 10 were wounded.

The wounded soldiers were brought to the trauma hospital in Jolo.
