A video footage showing a bank manager from Changzi province in northern China spanking “poor-performing” employees as a form of “corporate punishment” has angered netizens from all over the world.
The one-minute video clip posted on People’s China Daily Facebook page on Monday showed eight Rural Commercial Bank employees–five males and three females–standing on the stage while being thrashed and scolded by the manager for their “poor performance.”
In the video, the manager bitterly asks the good-performing employees to explain to the other employees seated at the dining tables why they “failed to achieve.” After verbal harassment, the unlucky employees endured physical harassment when the manager hit them one by one with a wooden ruler. Each of them receives four smacks from the brutal “bank lord.”
Since the footage was uploaded, heaps of online protests from disgusted users, mostly non-Chinese, flooded the comments thread of the video.
