Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s pneumonia is now under control, her staff announced on Sunday.

The senator, who was recently hospitalized due to complications from her lung cancer, turned 71 last June 15.

“She is feeling better. Thank you,” her staff posted on Twitter and Facebook.

Last month, Santiago was rushed to the hospital after she developed pneumonia, but she was discharged after almost two weeks. She stayed in the intensive care unit for two days.

Santiago will end her term as senator on June 30. She extended her medical leave after the May 9 elections where she ran for president and lost in the five-way race./rga
