NAGA CITY, Philippines — After an eight-year manhunt, police on Saturday arrested in Aurora province the suspect in the slaying of a former radio broadcaster in Camarines Sur province, police said on Sunday.
Senior Supt. Walfredo Pornillos, Camarines Sur police director, said a joint team of policemen from Bicol and Central Luzon arrested Efren “Pitay” Barrosa, 49, in a house in Barangay Aurora in Maria Aurora town in Aurora before noon Saturday.
Barrosa is accused of shooting and killing former broadcaster Ronaldo Julia, 40, who was attacked while driving a motorcycle on his way home to Magarao town in Camarines Sur on Aug. 15, 2008.
A murder case is pending in the sala of Judge Zenaida Aurora Garfin of the Regional Trial Court Branch 19 in Naga City. Garfin issued the arrest warrant for Barrosa.
Police said investigation showed that a grudge appeared to have led Barrosa to shoot and kill Julia, who was not affiliated with any local radio station at the time he was attacked. /rga
