DUMAGUETE CITY–A 55-year-old man, who had pending illegal drugs charges, was in critical condition after two unidentified gunmen shot him on Friday night in front of a lotto outlet in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental province.
Supt. Jovito Atanacio, acting police chief of Dumaguete police station, said Romeo Amoma was parking his red Honda XRM motorcycle with plate number PZ 8062 in front of a lotto outlet when two unidentified assailants shot him four times.
Amoma suffered gunshot wounds on his lower chest, stomach and left arm. The perpetrators immediately fled after the shooting.
A tricycle driver, who saw the victim, brought him to Holy Child Hospital where doctors attended to him.
Atanacio said in a phone interview that the victim’s relatives had refused to talk to the investigators on Saturday morning.
Policemen were also barred from entering the intensive care unit where the victim was confined.
But Atanacio said his investigator was able to talk to the victim’s son, Romeo Jr. on Friday night, who told them that his father was arrested last year for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
But he added they had yet to verify the information.
Atanacio said they were also checking the nearby establishments at the crime scene if there were closed circuit television cameras that captured the shooting to help the police identify the perpetrators.
He said the police were also coordinating with the barangay to check the victim’s affiliation. CDG
