Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and Smart Communications unveil their slick new logos.

In a grand showcase of their human-centered tech innovations and digital services, telecommunications giants PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications unveiled a fresh, modern take on their logos Monday night at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati. The event marked the company’s commitment in serving their growing customer base whose use of digital services are becoming more lifestyle-centric.

The event, dubbed “It’s A New Day for PLDT-Smart”, was headed by PLDT and Smart Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan. The new triangular logos replaces PLDT’s familiar symbol of interconnected telephone receivers, and represents the company’s business pillars of exceptional people, meaningful innovations, and valuable customers.

“For PLDT it’s high time; it’s been a long time since we’ve had the logo of the sunsets,” Pangilinan said during his short speech. “The design was originally by Tony Samson and Edwin Campos.” The company added that the new logos symbolize the powerful convergence of PLDT and Smart combining fixed and wireless technologies to serve individual and enterprise customers. Along with the new logo is a change in name from “Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company” to “PLDT, Inc.” representing a new direction in the company’s future.

“For Smart it’s a new logo; it’s a refresh of the existing logo with the bubbles. I hope you will like the new logos we’re launching tonight.”

Symbolically, the logos’ three pillars create tremendous energy that will enable Smart and PLDT customers to achieve their limitless potential. The way the triangle’s three sides support each other provides an inherent strength that flows harmoniously to sustain the structure. The logos’ big reveal was projected on the facade of PLDT’s headquarters in Makati.

The image rebranding also comes along with a planned PLDT-Smart digital pivot over the next three years in an effort to develop the company’s data services and infrastructure.

The company’s other subsidiaries, Voyager Innovations, Inc. and Talas Data Intelligence, are also set to push forward and enhance their digital and financial technology services.
