LP submits poll expenses report a week after deadline

A week after the deadline, the Liberal Party on Tuesday submitted its statement of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

According to the document LP submitted, the party spent at least P241,097,372 in the recently concluded May national elections.

The documents, however, did not include the SOCE of Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, the party’s standard-bearer, who also failed to file his SOCE last June 8.

The Comelec en banc has yet to rule if it will accept SOCEs filed after the deadline. The Comelec Campaign Finance Office, which is in charge of receiving the SOCE, said that the acceptance of the LP’s SOCE is only ministerial.

The LP and Roxas earlier requested the poll body for a 14-day extension to file SOCEs.

Their request was supposed to be tackled by the Comelec en banc Tuesday but Commissioner Christian Lim, the head of the campaign finance office, was not present during the meeting. RAM/rga
