(Updated) DAVAO CITY—Quezon province Representative Danilo Suarez wants to be the next House minority leader.

“Sinabi ko kay Bebot (incoming House Speaker Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez), I think we’re their best choice when it comes to minority—the UNA (United Nationalist Alliance). Unang-una nag usap na si Binay (Vice President Jejomar Binay) at Digong (incoming President Rodrigo Duterte),” Suarez said in a chance interview with reporters on Tuesday at the Marco Polo Hotel.

Suarez ran under UNA, which was bannered by the presidential bid of Vice President Jejomar Binay, in the May 9 elections.

“We will be a constructive and cooperative minority in the House of Representatives,” he said.

Suarez will meet Alvarez Duterte ‪on Tuesday afternoon to make a courtesy call and talk about his plans to be minority leader.

He will be joined by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte of the Liberal Party, who will reportedly join the new ruling coalition Partido Demokratiko Pilipino- Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) in the 17th Congress.  IDL/rga
