CITY OF MALOLOS—The Bulacan State University (BulSU) will start classes in August, instead of June, adopting a school calendar shift to align its programs with other universities in the country and in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
BulSU president Cecilia Gascon said parents, students and faculty members had been consulted about the shift.
Classes under the old school calendar ended in March while summer classes will end in July.
Gascon said BulSU would spend the intervening months fixing or repairing classrooms. BulSU’s research building will begin construction in July. The university is also building a 7-story library.
BulSU, which started as a trade school in 1904, has more than 47,000 students.
This school year, it is accepting 1,500 students, who passed the college entrance examination. But because of gaps created by the implementation of a senior high school program, student population may drop to 40,000, most of whom are enrolled at the Malolos campus.
