Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has expressed his heartfelt sympathies for Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, who is currently at the intensive care unit of Makati Medical Center.

“It is our hope that she again wins this fight and be on her way to full recovery,” he said.

Santiago was rushed to the hospital by ambulance on Monday, likely due to the complications of her advanced stage of lung cancer.

Her husband Jun said the senator was “bearing well with her trademark sense of humor.”

Santiago, whose term ends on June 30, extended her medical leave at the Senate after suffering from anorexia, a complication from her anticancer medication. She said the complication had made her “physically and mentally weak.”
