THE FOOD and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public to watch out for fake hepatitis C medicine circulating in Southeast Asia.
In an advisory posted on its website, the FDA said the World Health Organization issued recently a medical product alert against Sofosbuvir+Ledipasvir (Ledso) 400-milligrams/90-mg capsule with batch number 0022, and Daclatasvir (Dakavir) 60-mg capsule with batch number 0322.
Both batches had a manufacturing date of 5/2015 and expiry date 4/2017.
FDA records did not show the medicines as registered drug products.
The WHO alert said the products were labeled as manufactured by Pharco Corp. in Alexandria, Egypt.
Pharco Corp. however issued a statement saying it did not manufacture any of these products, the FDA said.
The FDA warned “the presence of these products pose potential danger or injury to the consuming public.”
It said the importation, selling or offering for sale of such was in violation of Republic Act No. 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009. Tina G. Santos
