A grandmother from Barcelona, Spain, might have the ‘coolest’ obituary spread in a local newspaper yet.
The loved ones of 75-year-old Carmen Bustamante Barango fulfilled her dying wish by posting a winking emoji alongside her death announcement on local paper El Periodico de Catalunya.
According to online news sites El Pais and Huffington Post, Barango wanted her memories to be cherished with her favorite emoji symbol. Upon her death on Friday, her relatives made sure her last favor would be granted.
Barango’s obituary was printed on page 38 of the newspaper and news site – coupled with the winking emoji, which was her favorite emoji icon on messaging app WhatsApp.
“She finished her journey — in this world — at her home,” her son Roman Zabal, wrote in the obituary.

Barango was not religious and she does not want to associate her death with any religious symbol. “If any symbols of that style appeared, she would come back to life and come looking for us, ” Zabal confessed in his interview with El Pais. Gianna Francesca Catolico
