Marcos overtakes Robredo as ‘Solid North’ votes canvassed

With ballots from his known bailiwicks canvassed, vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. overtook rival Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo by almost two million votes in the ongoing tally by the Congress on Thursday evening.

As of 7:57 p.m. or with 92 out of 165 certificates of canvass (COCs) opened, Marcos garnered 10,493,735 votes, ahead by 1,980,989 votes over Robredo, who got 8,512,746 votes so far.

COCs have already been canvassed in known Marcos bailiwicks in the so-called “Solid North” like Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, where the son and namesake of the late dictator has received 298,786 and 316,121 votes respectively, over Robredo’s 3,704 and 14,140.

Marcos also won in Abra with 112,694 votes, while Robredo got only 5,457.

The senator also won in La Union (338,455), Pangasinan (832,711), Nueva Ecija (541,980), Kalinga (64,023), Ifugao (35,256) and Mt. Province (34,286).

Robredo, meanwhile, took Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, Bohol, Aklan, Tawi-Tawi, Capiz, and Masbate, among other provinces.

She was leading the official tally at the close of Congress’ first day of canvassing on Wednesday by over 200,000 votes. RC
