THE PHILIPPINE National Police-Aviation Security Group has deployed its special operations unit to all the four terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Avsegroup director Chief Supt. Pablo Francisco Balagtas also extended the range of its K9 units to the parking lots of the Naia terminals.
“We deployed our special operations unit to conduct full-time patrols at the terminals. Previously, the unit was only dispatched to respond to incidents,” Balagtas told the Inquirer.
Balagtas said the heightened security measures were put in place following last week’s crash of an EgyptAir jet into the Mediterranean Sea, an incident still shrouded in mystery as to its cause.
The Cairo-bound flight had come from Paris and carried 56 passengers and 10 crew.
Balagtas stressed that no threats had been received against the Naia or any other Philippine airport but the tighter measures were put in place for added security. Jeannette I. Andrade
