Congress to convene for canvassing of president, VP results Tuesday

The House of Representatives on Monday approved the resolution for the joint session with Senate for the canvassing of the votes from the recently concluded presidential and vice presidential elections last May 9.

The lower House has set the start of the canvassing on Tuesday starting 2 p.m., when Congress will convene in a joint session to approve the canvassing rules.

The official canvassing of votes will start Wednesday.

Under the Constitution, a joint session of Congress would canvass the votes of the election results for president and vice president. It would also be the Congress which would proclaim the winning president and vice president. RAM/rga
