ILAGAN CITY, Philippines — Four passengers of a tricycle were killed when their vehicle collided with a speeding commuter bus along the national highway in Barangay (village) Alibagu on May 21, police said.
Leonardo Ander, 35-year-old tricycle driver; Elmer Ignacio, 29; Jerome Galasinao, 33, and Malito Manalo, 39, died in the collision with a Florida Busline unit at 10 p.m., said Supt. Manuel Bringas, Ilagan City police chief.
The tricycle was trying to overtake a car when it drove into the path of the bus that was cruising on the other lane, police said.
Bus driver Joseph Pasaraba, 50, of Cagayan province, surrendered to the police and said he could not stop in time to avoid the tricycle.
The impact threw one of the fatalities off the tricycle, which caught fire when spilt gasoline was ignited./rga
