Fires hit Parañaque condo, Manila school

A FIRE believed to have been caused by electrical malfunction damaged at least two units in a 21-story condominium building on Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque City on Friday.

Insp. Wilson Tana, the city’s arson investigator, said the fire started at a unit on the 19th floor of Chateau de Baie. The unit owner, 37-year-old Liezl Casiño, was awakened by the heat around 5:30 a.m. as flames were already engulfing her living room, Tana said.

Responding firefighters took about two and a half hours to put out the fire, which also reached a neighboring unit. No injuries were reported and damage to property was estimated at P200,000.

Also on Friday, a fire broke out at 1:44 p.m. in the storage room of Juan Luna Elementary School in Sampaloc, Manila, destroying mostly books and electrical appliances.

The fire did not affect other parts of the campus and was declared out an hour later. At least one responder, SFO4 Robert Moises, sustained minor injuries.  Kristine Felisse Mangunay and Annelle Tayao Juego
