Stags, Knights dispute last c’ship ticket
THE SAN SEBASTIAN Stags and the Letran Knights will put their season on the line today as the two squads battle it out for the last ticket to the championship round in the 87th NCAA basketball tournament at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Stags and the Knights collide at 4 p.m. at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Letran forced a winner-take-all match after an emphatic 70-62 win over the Recoletos squad the other day. San Sebastian held a twice-to-beat edge, forging today’s game.
The winner will advance to a best-of-three finale against defending champion San Beda College, which bundled out Jose Rizal University, 83-74, in the other semifinal pairing held last Monday.
In last Monday’s game, the Knights clearly had San Sebastian’s number, scoring in several plays orchestrated by Mark Cruz, who masterfully orchestrated Letran’s offensive in the second half.
Cruz himself finished in double figures with 12 points, eight in the fourth quarter, while Jam Cortes and Kevin Alas got their usual numbers with 16 and 15 points, respectively. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
