CEBU CITY — A late afternoon fire burned at least P500,000 worth of properties in Sitio Cansubing in Barangay Buagsong in Cordova town, Cebu.

The fire burned a two-story house owned by Nicasio and Ermelinda Yosores, their parked Suzuki wagon, a big bike, and at least P70,000 worth of cash.

The fire also damaged the couple’s sari-sari store located at least two meters away from their house.

Nicasio 59, said he noticed smoke and fire coming from their ground floor master bedroom when he came home about 5:20 p.m.after running an errand in the nearby Lapu-Lapu City.

Emerlinda, 56, was then tending their store.

The fire had started to engulf other parts of the house, prompting Nicasio to immediately get out.

Remembering he had P70,000 stashed inside the house, he attempted to get back in and recover the money but the fire was too big for him to proceed.

He added that he also tried to save his Wagon and bike but failed.

Responding firefighters from the Cordova Fire Department were able contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures. The blaze was put out 40 minutes later.

The Yosores residence was located along the road in Sitio Cansubing.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Mario Randy Cuizon said the fire might have started from the improper use of electrical connections but probers have not concluded anything yet.  SFM
